Greek Olympics 2019 by Tim

During the week there were some interesting things that happened let me tell you about them. On Monday we started to see who would like to do what even in the Olympic games. (A event where there was Discus, Relay,50m, and wrestling, etc…) On Tuesday we Started to see what are chant was gonna be and we got to make the chant even though like 3 people did it that I heard. On Wednesday was the Olympic games it was at the end of the day, our class the Athens didn’t do very well (except for our banner) if I'm being honest but our class tried. We came in second place in many events.

 In the end, I think the Olympians did the best out of the 3 classes. When it was over we all got to have root beer floats but there was also orange soda in some of them too. My favorite part was the discus event and the Greek Wrestling. In the end it was a fun experience and I think everyone had a great time.

Joaquin -The rally awards are good. All of Leading Edge went to the rally. The kids that got papers must have had some pretty good grades. It would be nice if kids got awards for kindness too. The kids who did not get honor roll or high honor roll might be discouraged because they think the kids with good grades are better than them. I think when a teacher picks one child, one child out of 30 kids as their smartest of the whole trimester, it’s a problem. I think there was more than one kid who actually tried their hardest but didn't make it. What happens if a kid that did not try too much was picked as the best student but a kid who almost made it and tried his or her hardest? We think that if you have a bad grade, a teacher should teach the kid till he or she understands it it. I think this even though I was on Honor roll.

Austin- Mrs. Goldman would call the students for honor roll and high honor roll. I was proud to be on Honor roll. After that the principal calls all the teachers in one grade, like 6th grade. Ms. Goldman would call Mrs.Bibayoff, Mrs.Meindl, Mr. Shane, and Mrs.Leporiere. Each one calls a student from their class that follows the LE pillars the best and gives them the reward. After that Mrs.Goldman calls all the teachers from the other grades. Then she calls all the people in wrestling and girls soccer. Then the rally ends and everyone goes home.

Wrestling practice started in November and the Takedown Tournament was in December. During the season we played against many schools including Mill’s and Capital Christian. Our team included LE and PFAA students.

Ryan: We won the championship with our hard work and coach’s coaching. In this season of wrestling everyone did a great job! We all went to practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Our best was Eric, he has done wrestling for 7 years. So everyone who watched him learned from him. In the championships we had around 7 people with a gold medal. In the championships we went against Bradshaw, Capital Christian, and Mills. When we heard our name get called up for 1st place in the championships we got so happy. We got to hold up the 1st place banner as a team.

Who got gold ?

There were six people on our team who got gold. And the team won the championships. Izel, Ryan, Diego, Angelo, Eric, Aiden. And are team won the championships. Our team got 1st place out of 5th. That is gold winner!!

Looking back at Marin Headlands by Isabella and Givanna

At the end of February, LE attended a field trip in Marin Headlands with the whole sixth grade at Nature Bridge Golden Gate. It was really great to experience the different things that they have there that we don't have here. The first day, we got put into hiking groups and we did activities as a group to get to know each other better. The second day was when we actually got to go on the 3.9 mile hike with our hiking groups. We were really lucky because the weather was sunny the whole time we were there.

Here are some thoughts from LE students.


Interviewing Maya E: “I thought it was fun, and I liked the hikes. It was cool hanging out in the dorms. I didn’t like teacher time because it was kind of boring. But other than that it was really fun.”


Destiny M: What was your highlight of the field trip?

“My highlight was when we went on the hike up the hill. It was a bit scary, but it was worth it, the view was amazing.

What did you think of the food?

“It was really good and I liked it a lot!”


Stanley H: What was your highlight of the field trip?

“ I liked Scotty’s Bluff because I enjoyed the view of the ocean and it was very peaceful.”

What did you think of the food?

“ It was good, the meals were ok.”


Ruby: “It was ok, it was fun.”

“The experience was nice, and peaceful.”

“Our leader was very Kim was very strict.”

The Greek Alphabet by Alaiya

Last week we studied the Greek alphabet. Everyone in the sixth grade studied it and performed it in

front of their core class. We probably did different things in each core class but, we all did something that was the same for all of the classes. What we each core class did was speed round. Where everyone who wants to go up to front can try to say the Greek alphabet the fastest.

Hiking in Marin by Aniruddh and Edric

On February 20-22, we went hiking with our groups. On February, 20, the Natomas Charter School arrived at Marin Headlands. We were first introduced to our groups and got our bunks. Soon after that, all of the groups headed to beach. As we went there, we talked about poison oak and played games. When we reached the beach, we saw a California Sea lion swimming west into the depths of the ocean. We played games and checked things off our list of birds, plants, and ocean animals. The first day went by quickly and it was already time to go back to our dorms.

On the second day of our field trip, we started hiking on steep rigid paths going up and down cliffs. There was a lot of ice plant that were growing in the area. The ice plant was brought to Marin Headlands by the army who thought it would help them. While we were hiking, we spotted a pod of dolphins swimming the water. After that, we saw Point Bonita lighthouse. The lighthouse was very old and had a suspension bridge that we had to cross to get there. The light in it would turn off and on every few seconds. We could also see a lighthouse near the Golden Gate Bridge that had a light that was flashing on and off. After that, we saw bunkers and head back the way we came. One of the groups, rolled in ice plant and another group did a space walk. A space walk is where we go on a trail and we each head on the trail thirty seconds after the person in front of us starts walking. After that, we finished our hike for the day and went back to our cabins.

On the third day, we didn’t hike as much. Some groups hiked on to the cliffs and saw a beautiful view of the ocean while eating lunch. Other groups went onto the beach and saw the release of a California Sea Lion. The Sea Lion was injured and was given care. A lot of hard work was given by the Marine Mammal center to help the Sea Lion get better and after all that, the Sea Lion was allowed to be sent back to the ocean. After that, all of the groups went to the campfire and talked about our highlights of the trip, said our goodbyes, and took the long bus ride home.

Marin Headlands Field Trip

On February 20 my class took a field trip to the Marin Headlands that are close to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. We were there for parts of three days.

We did a lot of fun things while we were there but, something I really enjoyed was Point Bonita lighthouse. I had gone there with my family when I was in the first grade but didn’t remember much about it now.

On Thursday February 21 my group went on a long hike to the lighthouse after climbing a really steep hill and going through a tunnel. After that we had to go over a wiggly, white, wooden bridge. As I was crossing the bridge a couple of my group members shook the bridge,
making me grab hold. It was funny!

We couldn’t go into the lighthouse that day, but we had amazing views of the ocean water and waves. It was cool.

It was a great field trip!
